Posted by Laptop Tips

Canadian PC retailer Eurocom is planning to launch the D900F Phantom i7, the “world’s first” laptop with Intel’s Core i7 processor.

Along with the Core i7 920, 940 and 965 quad core CPUs, designed for desktop PCs, the 17-inch workstation/gaming notebook will feature the Intel X58 chipset, Nvidia’s GeForce G280, 9800GTX, or Quadro FX3700 graphics solution with 1GB of video memory, up to 1.5TB of storage, and up to 8GB of DDR3 system memory. There are also optional Blu-ray optical drive and TV tuner.

The 12-pound laptop will have a 12-cell battery and will run either Windows Vista or Linux operating system.

The launch of the D900F Phantom i7 is scheduled for May 1, 2009. We have no info on pricing.

The Core i7 is based on Intel’s latest “Nehalem” microarchitecture. Its the successor to the Intel Core 2 CPU family. The significant change in the Core i7 is the “on-die” memory controller, directly connecting computer’s memory to the processor and thus enabling better performance.
