RadioShack to Offer Acer Aspire One with AT&T 3G Connectivity

On December 14, RadioShack will start offering the Acer Aspire One netbook with integrated 3G wireless connectivity provided by AT&T.

The Aspire One is priced at $99.99 for customers who sign up for a qualifying two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband service agreement with plans starting at $60 a month.

Along with the built-in 3G module, the 2.44-pound mini-laptop features a 8.9-inch display, Intel’s Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows XP Home operating system.

Intel Launches Dual Core Celeron Mobile CPUs

ntel has launched the T1600 and T1700, the first dual core Celeron laptop processors.

“They are both 65nm parts with 1MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB and TDP of 35W. The T1600 costs $80 from Intel and has a clock of 1.66GHz, the 1.83GHz T1700 costs $86,” Nexus reports.

Intel’s notebook CPU lineup also includes the dual core Mobile Celeron 723. The 45nm chip is clocked at 1.2GHz and features an 800MHz FSB and TDP of only 10W. We do not have info on pricing for the Celeron 723 at the time of this writing.

In addition, we have found the Intel Celeron T1400 dual core at 1.73GHz in the Extensa 4220-2346 and Aspire AS5315-2721 laptops by Acer.

The new CPUs support 64-bit operating systems and software.

Mac OS X 10.5.6 Released

Apple released today Mac OS X 10.5.6, the sixth major update to Leopard 10.5 operating system.

The update includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of Mac-based computers, according to the support page.

“What’s new in this update?

Address Book

* Improves reliability of Address Book syncing with iPhone and other devices and applications.


* Improves the reliability of AirPort connections, including improvements when roaming in large wireless networks with an Intel-based Mac.

Client management

* Improves reliability of synchronizing files on a portable home directory.
* Fixes an issue in Mac OS X 10.5.4 and 10.5.5 in which managed users may not see printers that use the Generic PPD.
* Client computers that use UUID-based ByHost preferences now respect managed Screen Saver settings.


* Addresses an issue that could cause an encryption alert to appear in the chat window.
* Setting your iChat status to “invisible” via AppleScript no longer logs you out of iChat.
* Resolves an issue in which pasting text from a Microsoft Office document could insert an image rather than text.

* Improves Apple File Service performance, especially when using a home directory hosted on an AFP server. Important: If you are using Mac OS X 10.5.6 (client) to connect to a Mac OS X Server 10.4-based server, it is strongly recommended that you update the server to Mac OS X Server version 10.4.11.
* Improves the performance and reliability of TCP connections.
* Improves reliability and performance for AT&T 3G cards.
* Updates the ssh Terminal command for compatibility with more ssh servers.

The upgrade to 10.5.6 is available via Automatic Software Update or as a standalone installer.
